“It’s a long story,” Emma said as she reached over and took his hand. “Isn’t this all wonderful?”

He laughed softly. “God has blessed you.”

“Yes.” She couldn’t have agreed more as she met her husband’s gaze at the opposite end of the table. She took in Halley and Colton, Billie Rae and Tanner, Jinx and Dawson, Alexa and Marshall, Blythe and Logan, and finally Dakota and Zane.

In the past year she’d come close to losing all of them. But the Chisholms had prevailed. They were a strong, determined bunch, just like those who had settled this part of Montana before them. They’d weathered rough storms and yet here they all were, laughing and talking all at once around this table.

Once they got through all the upcoming weddings, there would be grandchildren before long. Hoyt was already talking about getting some small saddles and gentle horses for them. She’d never seen her husband more happy. He’d faced his worst fear, and now here he was among the people who loved him.

Her eyes filled with tears and she had to hastily wipe them as Hoyt rose, tapped his glass to get everyone’s attention and said, “I’d like to make a toast.”

The room fell silent, all eyes on her handsome, wonderful husband.

“To my family,” he said, his voice breaking with emotion. “The Chisholms and the future Chisholms. Long may they live on this ranch and prosper.”

“And multiply,” Colton said with a grin as he looked over at his wife. Halley blushed.

“Hear, hear,” Emma said, and felt tears rush into her eyes. She couldn’t wait to be a grandmother, and apparently she didn’t have long to wait.
